Thematic Component: 4. Improvement of Cross-Border Cooperation
Country: Kyrgyzstan

The infographic reflects the findings of the pilot study “Circular labour migration in the Fergana Valley of the Kyrgyz Republic: Migrant profile” developed within the framework of the Component 4 “Improving Cross-Border Cooperation”. The main insights of the study confirm that circular migrants come mainly from Uzbekistan (since the land border with Tajikistan is still closed), seeking to improve their standard of living and earning opportunities. Unfortunately, the study showed that migrants often have low legal literacy and insufficient knowledge of the procedures and rules for working and staying in Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, sources of information on legal migration pathways are often scarce or completely absent. For more information on the study (available in the Russian language), which has become an important source of information for the state authorities in their work with migrants and in the efforts to improve their conditions of stay, please follow the link: https://www.bomca-eu.org/ru/repository/reports/maatnikovaa-trudovaa-migracia-v-ferganskoj-doline-kyrgyzskoj-respubliki-profil-migranta.
