EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia continues supporting the modernization of BCP’s in Turkmenistan

On January 22, BOMCA Programme officially handed over colour and monochrome printers, and server equipment to the State Customs Service, State Service on Plant Quarantine and State Veterinary Service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan equipment, accounting for a total value of EUR 67 011.00.

Effective Communication: A Handbook for Local Self-Government Authorities in the Border Regions of Central Asian Countries

Local authorities are the first contact points for the border areas population in address any issues. Therefore, the BOMCA Programme and its Component 4 have been supporting local authorities in further building up their communication skills.

BOMCA 10 supports Central Asian customs agencies in promotion of gender equality and gender mainstreaming in customs management

In cooperation with the State Customs Committee under the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan, the EU-funded BOMCA 10 Programme organised a joint webinar series which aimed to promote gender equality and enhance gender mainstreaming in customs management, as well as strengthening women leadership in the customs agencies of Central Asian countries.

Cooperation between Customs, Phytosanitary, Veterinary and Sanitary-Epidemiological services improved to facilitate trade in Turkmenistan

From November 22 to 24, BOMCA 10 worked on advancing cooperation between Customs and Phytosanitary, Veterinary and Sanitary-Epidemiological services involved in border control at border check points. Inter-agency cooperation leads to more efficient processes at the border, which individual travellers but also businesses benefit from.

Increased role of women, community members and civil society in addressing radicalisation in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan

Some 35 participants, officials from international and regional organisations, international experts, as well as  representatives of civil society and relevant government agencies from Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan attended the workshop “Law Enforcement Agencies Cooperation with Civil Society in the protection of Children and the Engagement of Women in Countering Violent Extremism” and shared their insights on early detection of radicalisation and protection of minors from violent extremism. The workshop took place in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on 20-22 November 2023, and was jointly organised with Law enforcement programme in Central Asia (LEICA).

Further strategic actions within the EU funded border management programme in Central Asia discussed in Tashkent

Funded by the European Union Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) held the third Regional Steering Group (RSG) meeting. This event serves as a steering instrument of the programme, which defines and monitors the strategic direction of the programme implementation. RSG held in Tashkent on November 14 and gathered donor, an implementing consortium and regional counterparts directly involved in the project’s implementation.

EU-funded programme keeps improving the educational and training processes of border and customs services in Central Asian region

BOMCA 10 finalised the series of monitoring meetings in Central Asian region in 2023

The EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) held the second round of its National Project Steering Group meetings in Turkmenistan, in order to review the progress of its second implementation year and define plans for the upcoming period. On October 18, a meeting was held in Ashgabat, gathering national counterparts directly involved in the project’s implementation.
