From 20 to 23 June, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia organised a study visit to the Republic of Lithuania for senior level officers of the investigation units of the border guards, law enforcement agencies, prosecutors’ offices, national security agencies from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The objective of the study visit was to introduce the participants to the organisation of investigation of different types of cross-border crime and to present the European Union approach in the field of criminal intelligence exchange and principles of joint investigation formats and its implementation.
In the framework of this event, the participants visited the Headquarters of the State Border Guard Service and Police Department under the Ministry of Interior of Lithuania. Participants were introduced to the situation at Lithuanian – Belarus border, types of cross-border crime, tendencies, main modus operandi, investigative approaches, the training and qualification system, got acquainted with forged travel document detection and service dog handling system at the Border Guard school. Cooperation principles and mechanisms between various law enforcement agencies, prosecutors’ offices, courts were analyzed and discussed.
