On May 13 the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) started a three-day national workshop in Bishkek on risk analysis for the representatives of Secretariat of Security Council and the Border Service of the National Security of Kyrgyzstan.
This BOMCA 10 activity is aimed at developing competencies in the application of basic methods of risk analysis, prevention/ minimizing the probability of potential risks occurring.
The Associate Professor of the Border Academy of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan introduced participants to the basic provisions of risk management based on the experience of the European Union (CIRAM) and with unified terms and concepts in the field of risk management. Also, participants were familiarized with the basic methods of risk assessment, with the cause-and-effect parameters of risk, and skills of using the "brainstorming" method and evaluating selected solutions, as well as using the results of the risk analysis for successful team interaction in various situations. In addition, the seminar provided knowledge on the importance of using various methods of analysis and risk assessment during the performance of official duties, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of a risk management system.
It is worth noting that this programme activity contributed to the specific objectives of the BOMCA 10 Component 1, aimed at the development and strengthening of the institutional capacities of border control agencies in Central Asian countries; and achieving alignment with international standards and best practices in ensuring national, regional and global security.
