In Tashkent the award ceremony for the handicraft contest, “Local traditions for economic prosperity in the border regions”, was held in Uzbekistan with the participation of the European Union Delegations to Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, BOMCA and CADAP Programmes.
The competition was dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of EU-funded BOMCA and CADAP programmes.
The residents of Surkhandaryo region were invited to present their handicraft items. The purpose of this competition was to reflect the philosophy of peaceful co-existence and promoting cultural heritage represented in crafts in the border areas. In addition, this contest aimed to provide a platform for promotion of the unique traditional Uzbek handicrafts with the potential to stimulate an increase in income of the artists living in the border areas.
The finalists of the contest are the following persons:
- Aminjon Vokhidov (first prize);
- Barno Karimova (second prize);
- Malika Podshoeva (third prize).
