BOMCA 10 supports the advancement of forensic management in Kazakhstan

  • Thematic Component: 2. Improvement of Detection Capacities
  • Country: Kazakhstan

On 2-4 April, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) organised a specialised training in Astana, Kazakhstan, focusing on forensic management.

The training aimed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of middle and senior managers from forensic units within law enforcement agencies, as well as forensic experts and crime scene investigation (CSI) specialists on strategic leadership, forensic coordination and legislative development. During the workshop, experts introduced advanced methods of handling of DNA and biological traces, as well as tools for preventing contamination at crime scenes. Training facilitated a comparison of national legal systems, focusing on evidence collection procedures and legislation in Kazakhstan and the EU Member States. As a result, this exchange of knowledge allowed participants to identify potential amendments to legislation and better understand the tools needed to support forensic investigations.

The three-day training was organised under the Programme’s Component 2, “Improvement of Detection Capacities,” aimed at strengthening the investigative capacities of law enforcement agencies and promoting evidence-based investigations.
