  • Thematic Component: 1. Institutional Development of Border Control Agencies
  • Country: Tajikistan

On 15-18 April 15, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) carried out an advanced training of trainers (ToT) on document security at the national level in Dushanbe.

The training brought together instructors from educational institutions and specialists from agencies responsible for training personnel in verifying document authenticity and conducting advanced examinations. The aim of the ToT was to share best practices from EU countries and enhance the qualifications of national experts involved in training border control personnel.

The lead expert, head of the expertise service of the Latvian State Border Guard, shared European practices for document checks in border control, including technical standards and staff training requirements. The training featured intensive theoretical sessions and practical exercises, covering topics from document production technologies and modern personalisation methods to hands-on practice in identifying counterfeit elements and optically variable features. The workshop also provided a platform for strengthening the professional community and discussing the idea of creating a regional network of experts in document security.

This activity was organised within the framework of Component 1 “Institutional Development of Border Control Agencies” which aims to further develop and strengthen the institutional capacity of border control agencies, as well as to adapt international standards to ensure national security.
