On 29 January, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) hosted a regional online lecture on customs valuation for representatives of the customs services of Central Asian countries, including specialists overseeing customs valuation practices and post-clearance checks.

The online workshop aimed to enhance participants' understanding of customs valuation principles, focusing on transaction value, adjustments and alternative valuation methods. Special emphasis was placed on how to apply these principles effectively to ensure compliance with customs regulations and promote fair trade practices.

The invited expert Ms. Marta Kannele, Head of the customs value and payment unit at the State Revenue Service of Latvia, outlined the important role of  customs valuation in applying tariff rates and calculating taxable bases for ensuring accurate government revenue collection. By the end of the lecture, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of different  methods and how to apply them in practice to achieve accurate valuations and ensure effective international trade.

This activity is part of the dedicated series of online trainings conducted under the BOMCA 10 initiative, which aims to support efficiency of customs agencies across Central Asia.
