From April 24 to 28, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) organised a study visit to Germany on developing a strategy for Kyrgyz diaspora led investment to the Kyrgyz border regions for the representatives of the state institutions involved in diaspora management.
The study visit aimed to conduct meetings with the Kyrgyz Embassy and Kyrgyz diaspora in Berlin to assess the needs and priorities of the local diaspora, as well as to identify their potential for investment and share information on the related investment opportunities. Also, participants learned about the experiences and management of investments from diaspora members of other countries residing in Germany. In addition, they got acquainted with the integration and migration related policies of Germany.
On the concluding day of the study visit, supported by the EU expert and BOMCA 10 Programme representatives, members of the delegation held a joint drafting session to develop a Background Document for the Strategy on Attracting Diaspora Investment for the Development of the Kyrgyz Border Regions.
This activity was organised in the framework of the Programme’s Component 4, “Improvement of Cross-Border Cooperation”, and is aimed at improving living conditions in border areas through local economic development, with a focus on human rights, gender equality and vulnerable groups.
