From October 17 to 19, BOMCA 10 held a Regional workshop on the development of Manual for border control for the representatives of Border Agencies of the Central Asian countries and the Migration Service of Turkmenistan.
This workshop promoted a provision of European Union practice on the organisation of border control at border control points (BCP) including document checks at the 1st line of control - elaboration of Manual for border control for use in Central Asian countries.
The experts from the State Border Guard of Latvia introduced international standards and best practices in border control, contributing to the improvement of control procedures. Also, they provided recommendations on a systematic approach to the document checks, and shared knowledge on increasing the effectiveness of control and identifying invalid and forged documents.
The participants learned about the methods of advanced checks of persons crossing the border, organisation of the flow of persons and vehicles to and on the territory of BCPs, as well as methods of adapting the BCP infrastructure.
As a result of the regional workshop Manual for 1st line border checks will be developed. This will enhance training for border guards at appropriate level in all BCPs and training units.
