BOMCA 10 enhances Uzbekistan's forensic capabilities with 3D scanning technology

  • Thematic Component: 2. Improvement of Detection Capacities
  • Country: Uzbekistan

On 10-11 March, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) provided specialised equipment valued at EUR 48,900 to the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The newly supplied equipment, including terrestrial 3D laser scanner, tablet computer, laptop along with specialised software and data acquisition tools, will be used exclusively for criminological research and forensic investigations. This technology will enable investigators to create highly precise 3D models of crime scenes and evidence, improving the accuracy and reliability of forensic examinations while aligning investigative processes with international best practices. Additionally, practical training on the use and certification of the 3D scanner was conducted for employees of the Investigative Department of MIA in Tashkent.

The equipment was provided under the Programme’s Component 2 “Improvement of Detection Capacities” aimed at strengthening investigative capacities of law enforcement agencies in modernising forensic methodologies and strengthening evidence-based investigations.
