  • Thematic Component: 1. Institutional Development of Border Control Agencies
  • Country: Kazakhstan

On 16 October, the EU funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) handed over specialised equipment to several state agencies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, amounting to 209 468 EUR.

The Border Guard Academy of the Committee of National Security of the Republic of Kazakhstan received the top-edge document security equipment, e.g. dual-video spectral comparator Regula 4308S, document authenticity verification devices Regula 4115 and magnifiers Regula 1003M for a total value of 175 206 EUR, to provide an effective learning environment for the training of border control specialists as well as advanced training of personnel in the field of state border protection. Technical means for in-depth document verification will allow the formation of high-quality educational and methodological materials with types and samples of document forgeries detected at checkpoints in the countries of the Central Asian region and thereby create preventive measures to prevent illegal migration to the EU countries.

The Dog Training Centre of the Border Service of the Committee of National Security of the Republic Kazakhstan was provided with equipment to support K9 training activities, which included GPS navigators, GPS collars and quadrocopter for tracking and training of service dogs, as well as ensuring control over the training process. This support will help increase training capabilities of the Border Service in K9 field by promoting advanced training methods for group training, ensuring proper supervision of trainers and developing educational materials from the records of practical training sessions. The total value of supplied equipment amounted to 11 350 EUR.

The Dog Training Centre of the Agency of Financial Monitoring of the Republic of Kazakhstan received specialised K9 equipment for a total value of 22 912 EUR. This included photo-, video cameras and quadrocopter to ensure control, fixation and optimisation of the training process of dog handlers with service dogs, as well as wooden booths and sinks to allow for proper maintenance conditions for service dogs.

These items were purchased by BOMCA 10 to further strengthen the technical basis of the respective agencies in addressing specific border management and training priorities, which in its turn supports the achievement of results under the BOMCA programme.
