BOMCA 10 enhances customs expertise with image recognition training in Kyrgyzstan

On 18-20 March, in Naryn, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) organised a national workshop on image recognition in inspection and screening complexes (ISC). 

The workshop aimed to enhance the efficiency of initial professional training and capacity building for the customs service of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as to train instructors for further knowledge transfer. Participants familiarised themselves with the principles of using modern technical solutions for customs control, studied methods for reading and analysing X-ray images, identified prohibited items and explored various concealment and transportation techniques. During the practical session at the “Torugart” border crossing point, specialists conducted vehicle scans and analysed shadow images. This training was delivered by national experts from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan leading the sessions as part of trainer exchange initiative in Central Asia.

The national seminar was organised within the framework of Component 1, “Institutional Development of Border Control Agencies,” which aims to strengthen the capacity of customs training institutions, introduce modern training methods and improve the effectiveness of customs control.
