BOMCA 10 enhances border security in Tajikistan with advanced surveillance equipment

  • Thematic Component: 1. Institutional Development of Border Control Agencies
  • Country: Tajikistan

On 28 March, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) handed over video surveillance equipment valued at EUR 110,038.56 to the Border Troops of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Prior to the handover, a meeting took place between the recently appointed Rajabzoda Murodali, first deputy chairman and commander of the Border Troops of Tajikistan and BOMCA 10 deputy coordinator Vladimirs Zaguzovs. During the meeting, both parties assessed the implemented capacity-building activities and the technical support provided to enhance security at Tajikistan’s borders.

The received panoramic cameras with thermal imaging, network video recorders, data transmission antennas, and hard drives will be deployed along the Tajik-Afghan border to enhance surveillance capabilities and strengthen the response to various border threats. The advanced technology provided to the border troops will enable 24/7 monitoring, improve situational awareness and extend the range of border surveillance even in low-light and adverse weather conditions. By centralising monitoring and control through the network video recorders, border security personnel will be able to coordinate responses more effectively. This system will also act as a deterrent against illegal activities such as smuggling and unauthorised border crossings, contributing to regional stability.

This support, provided within the framework BOMCA 10’s Component 1, is a joint effort by international partners to further strengthen the technical capacity of the Border Troops in the most vulnerable sectors of the Tajik-Afghan border.
