On 18-20 March, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) hosted a regional workshop in Astana, Kazakhstan on elaboration of the primary training module for the new staff of agencies involved in phytosanitary and veterinary border controls / phytosanitary and veterinary services.
The event introduced participants to good practices from EU Member States in SPS (Sanitary and Phytosanitary) staff training, covering methodologies, curriculum development, and the use of innovative educational tools. The workshop also explored key challenges in implementing training systems, with a focus on technological innovations such as e-learning, simulation-based training, and gamification. Key specialists from Central Asian region responsible for phytosanitary and veterinary border control staff training gathered to share their experiences and insights. Experts from Latvia provided valuable knowledge on training strategies, methodologies, and lessons learned. As a result of the workshop, participants developed proposals for primary training modules and recommendations for organising effective and high-quality training programs.
This workshop was organised as part of the Programme’s Component 3, "Facilitation of Trade", aimed at further supporting regional economic integration by enhancing operational practices, training, and skills of phyto-sanitary staff.
