On April 23 – 24, a regional workshop on the development of joint border crossing points was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, organized in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) Program "Promoting Regional Trade in Central Asia".

Representatives of border authorities of Central Asian countries (border, customs, migration and veterinary / phytosanitary services of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan ), as well as BOMCA and GIZ experts discussed issues of improving the efficiency and subsequent development of legal and procedural tools in the field of joint control at the checkpoints, its advantages and economic benefits and various ways and technologies of implementation of joint control. Special attention was given to the development of cooperation between Border Representatives in the field of functioning of joint checkpoints. European experts presented best European practices in the field of joint border, customs, phytosanitary and veterinary control and cooperation mechanisms between agencies.

Based of the workshop results, experts will develop and provide recommendations regarding adjustments of regulatory and institutional acts with regard the possibility of creating joint checkpoints based on EU experience and best practices.
